Montmirail 200: an Historicon playtest

Plenty of Guard!

Those gents at the Hartford Area Historical Gaming Society (HAHGS), who have been regularly staging massive, magnificent games of key battles of the bicentennial, recently completed a re-fight of Montmirail.

This was partly as a bicentennial bash, but mainly as a playtest of the scenario, which they will run at the Historicon convention in July.

As readers of this blog will no doubt know, Montmirail was a battle with almost wall to wall guard on the French side, making it a combination of pure joy and huge pressure for the French player: what would happen if the Russo-Prussians won?!

Guard cavalry, the Big Heels and Cherished Children, no less, attack Lieven III's infantry. Not quite flank, but 'nasty' nonetheless.
Peter opted for snow terrain for the playtest, but it will be knee-deep mud at Historicon!

As usual, the photos here are but a teaser. See Peter's full report of the game, with many more photos, here.
