2014: A year when too many Montmirails are barely enough

It's time to catch up on some of the marvellous bicentennial games that have been reported recently. This time it's all about the Battle of Montmirail, arguably the best-known of Napoleon's string of six victories in February 1814.

Each year Peter 'Gonsalvo' Anderson stages a large Napoleonic game at the Historicon convention. This year he ran a game based on Montmirail, not once but twice!

The two battles played out quite differently. Head to Peter's blog to read his excellent reports, with more top photos:
version 1, The Emperor Strikes Back
version 2, Deja vu all over again?

Also turning their attention to Montmirail were the Association les Riflemens. As ever Phil's report, replete with his effete spéciaux, fabulous animations and witty 'commentary' is well worth the price of admission! Read all about it here.

The focus is already moving to 2015, which will be all about Waterloo, the culmination of the games of the Napoleonic bicentennial. Naturally we'll try to link to as many games as possible through this blog. Several have been reported already (see 1815 : 2015 tab above).

Worthy of special mention is the effort of Chris, Kevin, James, Richard (and others?) in preparing a 1:3 scale refight of the fighting round La Haye Sainte. See the stunning photos of a recent play-test here.
