The Battle of Maloyaroslavets was another of the slog-fest battles that typified the 1812 Russian campaign.

Such was the case with the game based on the battle that was staged at the recent Historicon convention in Fredericksburg, Virginia by the HAHGS. As ever, Peter A. has posted an excellent game report with heaps of photos. The Russians did better than their historical counterparts, breaking Prince Eugéne's IV Corps, an outcome that was aided by the early arrival of the Russian reserve artillery!

The crucial Battle of Maloyaroslavets is also the focus of a game being planned by Murdock to be staged at Dak-Kon in Courtenay, BC, Canada on 13th–14th October, 199 years and 355 days after the real thing—that's 200th anniversary in my book!

Further south, another game to mark the 200th anniversary of Borodino will be staged at Strategicon in Los Angeles, California on 2nd September. This game, focussing on the struggle for the Grand Redoubt, is being staged by Stephen P., utilising his own rules, La Bataille.
